Feb. 13th, 2008 08:35 amWhile I like the idea of hybrid cars, they're only a half-step towards more environmentally-friendly vehicles. They still use gas and I've always worried about what happens to their large batteries at the end of their life. Are the metals and/or chemicals they contain properly treated when they are finished? This problem also exists for electric cars.
So it's nice to see compressed air being promoted as a possible solution. It's not perfect: there's still the question of the energy source powering any compressor that feeds the car. However, it's nice to see that with an external compressor it can be ready to go in 3 minutes (about the same amount of time it takes to gas up my gas-powered car). Alternatively, it can be plugged in for 4 hours for its internal compressor to do the trick (not unlike electrical cars).
In school news, I'm stressed out of my mind this week (and next). I have way too much to do. On the plus side, I'm surviving, and if I can make it to Reading Week with my sanity, the rest of the term should be much easier.
I have done absolutely no leisure reading. However, I managed to quote Jacobs' Systems of Survival and Marlin's Propaganda and the Ethics of Persuasion in my last paper on Intellectual Freedom. I also went through Canada's Criminal Code to read up on our laws for hate propaganda. Trust me, it's more fun than it sounds! Really!
